Nighttime restrictions are in effect this week on the Schuylkill Expressway at the South Street interchange in Philadelphia for construction on the overhead South Street Bridge by the City of Philadelphia, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.

The eastbound expressway will be closed at South Street from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday. The westbound expressway will be closed at South Street on Friday and Saturday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Motorists will be taken off the expressway at the South Street off-ramp and will re-enter the expressway from the South Street on-ramp.

In addition, there will be overnight lane closures this week on the Schuylkill Expressway in Philadelphia and Montgomery County for bridge and median barrier construction.

Today through Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the westbound expressway will be reduced from two lanes to one between Route 1 (City Avenue) and Belmont Avenue in Lower Merion Township for construction to repair the bridge wall and deck.

Also today through Friday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., the westbound expressway will be reduced from two lanes to one between South Street and the Vine Street Expressway in Philadelphia for the removal of protective shielding and installation of new downspouts on the overhead Schuylkill Avenue structure.

Today and tomorrow from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., lane closures will occur on the expressway in both directions between 26th Street and University Avenue in Philadelphia for the replacement of a damaged section of concrete median barrier.

All work is weather-dependent on the weather.
