Threat of snow delays rescue mission’s Christmas party

Forecasts of snow - and not the lack of toys - has forced the postponement of the Camden Rescue Mission's annual Christmas Party Saturday to distribute gifts to needy children.

Forecasts of snow - and not the lack of toys - has forced the postponement of the Camden Rescue Mission's annual Christmas Party Saturday to distribute gifts to needy children.

The Rev. Al Stewart, mission pastor, said the party had been rescheduled for Christmas Eve, starting at 9 a.m. About 6,000 children are registered for the event and have been given tickets for gifts.

Earlier this week, only a couple thousand toys had been collected but when word of the need got out through The Inquirer and other media, the gifts started flowing into the mission.

With the public outpouring, Stewart announced he would hold the party, and then learned today of the weather forecast.
