Bensalem police have captured a man who fled after he was caught raping a 10-year-old child Tuesday morning in an apartment, authorities said.

Police said Jermaine Jackson, 37, who is known by the street name "Maniac," was caught by an unidentified witness raping the child in the apartment at the Creekside Apartments on Knights Road.

Jackson locked the victim and the witness in a bedroom and yanked out the telephone before fleeing, police said.

The witness and victim broke free about 11 a.m. and stopped a Bucks County Sheriff's Officer who was passing by, police said.

Late Tuesday night, police found Jackson hiding deep in a wooded area between Yezzi Baseball field and the Franklin Mills Mall after "an aggressive search," said Sgt. Andrew Aninsman.
