City official critically injured by truck

Debrah Merlin, an assistant deputy mayor, was critically injured by a pickup truck as she tried to cross a Center City intersection on Tuesday afternoon.

Debrah Merlin, an assistant deputy mayor, was critically injured by a pickup truck as she tried to cross a Center City intersection on Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened at 5:45 p.m., when the pickup, traveling east on Chestnut, turned onto 18th Street, according to police.

The Mayor's office confirmed that the victim, who was transported to Hahnemann Hospital, was Merlin, who works at the Mayor's Commission on Aging.

No charges were pending against the driver, who did stop at the scene, police said.
