A 37-year-old Delaware woman is recovering today after being shocked when she stepped on a metal grate with an exposed live electrical wire beneath it in Prices Corner.

Delaware State Police Cpl. Jeffrey Hale said the woman was walking with her 14-year-old son about 5:45 p.m. Monday when stepped on the grate and was knocked to the ground on Centerville Road under the Route 141 overpass.

The woman, a Wilmington resident whose name was not released, was able to call 911 with her cell phone and was taken to Christiana Hospital, where she was undergoing tests. Her son was not hurt.

"Her injuries were not believed to be life threatening," Hale said in a statement.

The Delaware Department of Transportation, which owned the grate and the wire, responded and made the necessary repairs, Hale said.
