A Chester County woman was shot in the face late Tuesday night after her ex-husband put a loaded gun under a pillow and it accidentally discharged, police said.

At 10:39 p.m., Westtown-East Goshen police received a call from the woman's 22-year-old son, who lives with her in the 800 block of General Howe Drive in Westtown Township, alerting them to the shooting in a second-floor bedroom at the single-family home.

When police arrived, they said, they found the ex-husband, 47, trying to stem the bleeding from the woman's facial wound.

The unidentified 46-year-old woman was conscious and flown to Hahnemann Hospital where she was listed in stable condition, according to police.

The gun, a Kimber .45 caliber pistol, was recovered by police. It was owned legally by the ex-husband, according to police. The case is under investigation.
