South Jersey man charged with murder in Collingswood double fatal stabbing

Camden County prosecutors on Sunday charged a South Jersey man with murder in the stabbing deaths of two women, reportedly sisters, at a home in Collingswood on Saturday.

Mark Lyczak, 44, who has addresses in Medford and Cherry Hill, according to public documents, was also charged with attempting to kill a third woman at the Collingswood home.

Around 5 p.m. Saturday, Collingswood police responded to neighbors' 911 calls reporting screams coming from a residence on the 100 block of East Narberth Terrace.

Colleen Brownell, 48, and Alysia McCloskey, 41, were pronounced dead at the scene, which property records indicate was McCloskey's home. The third stabbing victim,  a 45-year-old woman whose identity police did not disclose, was taken to a local hospital, where she remained Sunday.

Lyczak, who was still at the McCloskey residence when police arrived, had had a relationship with Brownell, according to a source familiar with the investigation who did not want to be identified because he did not have authority to talk about it. NJPen.com reported that Brownell and McCloskey were sisters and that Brownell had moved in with McCloskey to get away from Lyczak.

He was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of first-degree attempted murder, according to a statement issued by Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo.

Lyczak was taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility, pending a pretrial detention hearing. The court could order him detained or released with conditions, Colalillo's statement said.

Lyczak has prior criminal convictions, including for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in 1994 and for another undated assault, both in New Jersey, according to public records.
