A security guard at a North Philadelphia club shot and killed a gunman who had opened fire on a crowd there Friday night, police said.

The shooting happened just after 11 p.m., police said, at J/F Hookah lounge on the corner of Germantown Avenue and Cumberland Street.

The 30-year-old gunman, who was not identified, began shooting and struck a man and woman in the legs, police said. The security guard then opened fire, police said, striking the man multiple times.

"Right in front of him he observed this male fire on people that were walking down the street, and that's how we believe this woman and man were shot in their legs," Police Capt. Drew Techner told 6ABC on Friday night.

The gunman was driven to Temple University Hospital, where he died at 12:19 a.m.

The victims, a 25-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, were also treated at Temple and in stable condition.

Police did not say whether the security guard faces any charges in connection with the shooting.
