Free rides to school will be saved for 60,000 city students who take public transportation.

SEPTA has offered to allow the Philadelphia School District to delay paying for TransPasses purchased next school year until September 2012 to ease the district's budget crisis.

SEPTA and the district said yesterday in a joint news release that "a basic framework" had been established to "continue providing TransPasses for the schoolchildren of Philadelphia for the upcoming school year."
