Philadelphia man held in Upper Darby kidnapping

A 22-year-old Philadelphia man wanted in connection with the kidnapping and beating of an Upper Darby man was arrested Monday night by federal authorities in Northeast Philadelphia. Larue Shivers, of the 6000 block of West Master Street, was arrested at 10:30 p.m. at a residence on the 1200 block of Knorr Street after authorities received a tip that he was there, Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. Shivers was arraigned yesterday morning with bail set at $1 million.

Shivers is one of several men accused of kidnapping an Upper Darby man and torturing him for several hours at a West Philadelphia residence on May 9. The men, armed with guns, a Taser and a crowbar, threatened to kill the man and his relatives if he did not set up a meeting with a well-known drug dealer, police said. Instead, the kidnapping victim tipped off police, who arrested three men last Tuesday.

Police are still looking for David Kennedy, 21, of the 6000 block of Media Street in Philadelphia.
