1 slain, 1 wounded by shots fired into house

An 18-year-old man was shot and killed yesterday and a 17-year-old girl was in surgery for a gunshot wound after two assailants fired repeatedly into a house in the 2200 block of North Howard Street in North Philadelphia, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:34 p.m., shortly after the assailants fired a hail of bullets using semiautomatic weapons.

He was shot three times, police said. The girl was shot in the abdomen and taken to Temple University Hospital.

Police would not release the victims' names. Investigators could not say whether the pair were related or what had sparked the shooting.
