A three-alarm fire at a Pottstown apartment complex Saturday has left 24 families homeless, authorities said.

The blaze broke out about 6 p.m. in a building at the Wexford Apartments, and it took firefighters more than an hour to contain the flames, officials said. No injuries were reported.

The American Red Cross, which briefly opened a shelter at an elementary school, is putting up eight of the families in a hotel for the next three days, and the other 16 families have found places to stay, said Dave Schrader, spokesman for the Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter.
