Rabid fox in Radnor; police search for handler

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is seeking a man who handled an injured red fox in the 400 E. Lancaster Ave., Wayne, Delaware County, at around 2 p.m. on Monday. The fox has tested positive for rabies. The man and anyone else who came in contact with the injured animal should call the department’s Southeast District Office, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., at 610-378-4352 or toll-free 1-877-724-3258, officials said. The department is trying to gauge how many were exposed to the fox and whether they need rabies vaccinations.

Radnor Township police who responded to a call about an injured fox found the man holding the animal in a blanket. He left the scene without giving officers any identification.

The animal was sent to the Pennsylvania Department of Health's Bureau of Laboratories, and results received Tuesday confirmed that the fox did have rabies.
