Three men die overnight in Phila. in unrelated encounters

Three people were killed Friday night and early Saturday morning in a series of unrelated incidents, one of which involved an interrupted burglary, police said.

Three people were killed Friday night and early Saturday morning in a series of unrelated incidents, one of which involved an interrupted burglary, police said.

The first death, a shooting, occurred about 9:40 p.m. Friday in Kensington, police said. The man was lying unresponsive in the 3100 block of Hartville Street, shot multiple times in the face and body, police said.

He was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital just after 10 p.m. His identity remained unknown Saturday evening, police said.

The second person reported killed overnight was a would-be burglar, police said. Shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, a man and his nephew heard an intruder in the garage behind their home on the 6100 block of Vandike Street in Wissinoming, police said.

They fought the intruder, a 23-year-old man who suffered head injuries in the struggle. He was pronounced dead shortly after 2 a.m., police said. They did not release his name Saturday. The case remains under investigation.

The third death occurred about 3 a.m. Saturday in the Nicetown section of the city, police said. Officers found a 22-year-old man outside who had been shot multiple times. The man, whose name was not released Saturday, was pronounced dead at Temple University Hospital at 3:35 a.m.

No arrests were made in either of the two fatal shootings, police said.
