Montco task force created to track drunk drivers

NORRISTOWN The Montgomery County sheriff and district attorney on Monday announced a new task force to track down defendants who skip court on drunken-driving charges.

NORRISTOWN The Montgomery County sheriff and district attorney on Monday announced a new task force to track down defendants who skip court on drunken-driving charges.

In an overnight raid, sheriff's deputies arrested 10 people in Abington, Norristown, Pottstown, Souderton, and Spring City, according to a district attorney's news release. Thirty others are on the task force's watch list, and their identities may be publicized through social media, news outlets, and other methods.

District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said the program would "target those high-risk offenders who accumulate multiple DUIs and continue driving as well as those who ignore the mandates of the court."

One of the men arrested had been in a car crash with a blood-alcohol content of 0.336 - four times the legal definition of drunken driving.

Another woman had an 8-year-old in the car at the time of her previous drunken-driving arrest and was also charged with endangering a child.

Sheriff Russell Bono encouraged people with outstanding DUI cases to turn themselves in "to avoid the embarrassment of being picked up or having their picture on our social media pages." - Jessica Parks
