Shooting sends 3 to hospitals

Someone opened fire on a group of people outside an alternative high school just after noon Friday, leaving three people hospitalized in what authorities believe to be a gang-related attack, Portland police said.

The victims are students at Rosemary Anderson High School or in job-training programs, Police Sgt. Pete Simpson said. A girl, 16, was in critical condition; two males - 17 and 20 - were in serious condition. A woman, 19, was grazed but not hospitalized. The assailant fled. A nearby school and community college were put on lockdown. Anderson High serves 190 students who were expelled or dropped out, or who are homeless or single parents.

Portland has been troubled by gang-related violence for years and has seen a spike this year. - AP
