S.J. teacher jailed in creating 'images of private areas' of students

A South Jersey teacher was arrested Friday and charged with invasion of privacy, endangering the welfare of a child, and official misconduct.

A South Jersey teacher was arrested Friday and charged with invasion of privacy, endangering the welfare of a child, and official misconduct.

Adam L. Mayr, 37, who has taught English at the Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Deptford for 13 years, allegedly created "images of private areas of students," said Bernie Weisenfeld, a spokesman for the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

Weisenfeld declined to be more specific about Mayr's methods or where the images were captured other than to say it occurred on school property. He would not specify what constituted "private areas" of the students.

"For investigative purposes, we have intentionally left it vague," he said.

Administrators at GCIT learned of the allegations on March 12 and notified law enforcement authorities the same day, Weisenfeld said.

Mayr was being held this morning at the Salem County Jail after failing to post $300,000 bail.

Detectives at the Prosecutor's Office are working with the GCIT administrators to identify all affected students and notify their families. Anyone with information is asked to contact the county Major Crimes Unit at 856-384-5500.
