Police surrounded a Trenton house Friday afternoon where an armed suspect remained barricaded at midnight Saturday, nearly nine hours later, and has at least two of his three children as hostages, according to reports, which also indicated he allegedly killed one of his children and their mother.
The dead woman was allegedly seen by police before they retreated from the home when the suspect threatened to use a handgun on first arriving officers.
Police have since surrounded the home near the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and Adeline Street in South Trenton. The city police director and state police have also arrived to assist in negotiating with the suspect. Later, hostage negotiators with the FBI reportedly arrived at the scene.
The Times of Trenton and Trentonian newspapers are reporting the suspect is barricaded in a house on Grand Street just off Chestnut Avenue.
The incident began when officers were called to the house to check on the family inside at about 3:30 p.m. That's when they first noticed an already decomposing female victim and a male armed with a gun.
The woman may have been killed in the last couple days. No identities of the family members or the suspect is yet known.
