Kennel where Biden got puppy cited on records

The Chester County kennel where Vice President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. bought a German shepherd puppy was cited for records violations several days after he picked out the dog. Kennel owner Linda Brown said workers cleaning up the night before Biden's visit accidentally threw out the records.

The Wolf Den Kennel in Spring City was cited after a regularly scheduled inspection on Dec. 10, four days after Biden picked out his 6-week-old puppy. The kennel was cited for a general record-keeping violation and failure to produce records of rabies vaccinations, according to state records. Each citation carries a fine of $100 to $500. Brown said she had never before been cited.

Brown said she had since gotten copies of the rabies vaccinations and given them to state officials. A general "records kept" citation applied to all records pertaining to the dogs, including who they were sold to; Brown said those records were gone.

Chris Ryder, an Agriculture Department spokesman, said the violations were found during the kennel's second scheduled inspection of the year and had nothing to do with Biden's visit. He said the agency had not received any complaints about the kennel.
