The Center for Literacy has received a $20,000 grant from the Connelly Foundation to be used to expand its English language classes for immigrants in South Philadelphia.

The classes will be offered in the evening during the 2009-10 academic year to help South Philadelphia's large Latino and Southeast Asian population learn English and understand American culture. The center, based in West Philadelphia, has offered the language classes and services since 2001.
