Slain Phila. officer's wife gives birth to a boy

The wife of slain Philadelphia Police Officer John Pawlowski has given birth to the child she was carrying when her husband was killed in February, officials said yesterday.

Kim Pawlowski gave birth to a son at Abington Memorial Hospital on Thursday. Police and hospital officials would not release any additional details, but NBC10 reported that the baby, weighing 6 pounds, 11 ounces, would be named John Pawlowski Jr.

John Pawlowski was killed on Feb. 13 while responding to a robbery in the Logan section. According to authorities, Rasheed Scruggs opened fire on the 25-year-old officer and his partner. Scruggs, also known as Scrugs, is awaiting trial for murder.

In a statement released through the Police Department, the officer's family asked for privacy and said they "would like to thank everyone for all the love and support for Kim and her new baby." - Zoe Tillman
