Ralph Archbold, widely known for portraying Benjamin Franklin, has suffered a stroke.

Archbold, 67, was taken to Riddle Memorial Hospital in Lima on Thursday, then airlifted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he was being evaluated. The university was cofounded in 1751 by his alter ego.

A statement from his family said Archbold was tired but resting comfortably. They said his memory appears unaffected, and "his legendary humor and wit are as sharp as ever."

Archbold began portraying Franklin in 1973 in Michigan and has been in Philadelphia since 1982. - AP
