Funds sought for Washington Crossing reenactment

Friends of Washington Crossing Park, a nonprofit group established by the Bucks County Conference and Visitors Bureau, has set up a Web site and an event to raise funds for Washington Crossing Historic Park's annual Christmas reenactment of Gen. George Washington's crossing of the Delaware River during the Revolutionary War.

The group is accepting donations through www.friendsofwashingtoncrossingpark.com and a fund-raiser is scheduled for Dec. 19 at the Washington Crossing Visitor Center. Tickets for the event - described by the bureau as a catered "night of cheer," with an open bar - cost $100 and are available through the Web site, where there is also a volunteer link. For more information, call Sandra Herman at 215-639-0300.

The Dec. 25 reenactment faced cancellation because of state budget cuts, before the visitors bureau decided to host the event.

The reenactment has cost from $35,000 to $50,000 in past years, said Bill Haas, vice president of the visitors bureau board. Because volunteers have offered to help, the cost for this year's event will be around $20,000, he said. - Deena ElGenaidi
