A Chester County township will get $1,947,725 worth of new sidewalks, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced yesterday in a news release.

A transportation economic-recovery project will fund a series of sidewalks in Tredyffrin Township along Conestoga, Old Lancaster, Howellville, and Irish Roads, improving safety for students who walk to school and linking these corridors to train stations and business districts, PennDot said.

The Marino Corp. of Skippack is expected to start construction early next year and finish during the summer, said Gene Blaum, a PennDot spokesman. The agency has awarded 25 transportation economic-recovery projects in the five-county region. - Kathleen Brady Shea
