Flight 93 families praise appropriation for memorial

SHANKSVILLE, Pa. - The Families of Flight 93 has praised Congress for approving $4 million to pay for roads and other infrastructure at the Flight 93 Memorial planned for southwestern Pennsylvania.

The first phase of the memorial is to open on the 10th anniversary of the crash of the United Airlines jet that was hijacked during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Forty passengers and crew died.

The survivors group says the $4 million approved as part of the Department of Transportation's 2010 fiscal budget will be combined with $725,000 in funds already received by the Interior Department. The first phase of the memorial is estimated to cost $58 million, with $30 million coming from private sources. - AP
