Scudders Falls Bridge will have tolls, officials say

Plans are moving forward for a new I-95 bridge to replace the Scudders Falls Bridge over the Delaware River between Bucks and Mercer Counties, and unlike the current span, it would be tolled.

Plans are moving forward for a new I-95 bridge to replace the Scudders Falls Bridge over the Delaware River between Bucks and Mercer Counties, and unlike the current span, it would be tolled.

Earlier this month, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission released an environmental assessment for a replacement for the aging bridge. To pay for the $310 million project, the commission says, it will need tolls.

Commission spokesman Joe Donnelly yesterday said construction isn't expected to begin until at least 2011.

Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission executive director Frank McCartney said drivers would be encouraged to use E-ZPass transponders. Drivers without E-ZPass would have their license plates photographed, and receive the bill in the mail. - AP
