Man charged in death of woman checking mail

BANGOR, Pa. - State police in eastern Pennsylvania say a man has been charged in the death this week of a woman hit by a car as she was trying to check her mailbox.

BANGOR, Pa. - State police in eastern Pennsylvania say a man has been charged in the death this week of a woman hit by a car as she was trying to check her mailbox.

Police said Marion Yannotti, 79, of Upper Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, parked in the opposite lane of traffic about 6 p.m. Wednesday to pick up her mail. She was climbing out of her car when she and the vehicle were struck by another car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

John Gorman, 34, was charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, police said. He was held in the Northampton County Prison with bail set at $35,000. - AP
