A 33-year-old man was shot by police Wednesday evening after firing a gun at officers in North Philadelphia, police said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., three officers in an unmarked vehicle saw a gun change hands between two men in the 2200 block of Edgley Street, police said. The officers drove toward the men, who were in a group, and the man with the gun fired at the car.

The officers got out of their car and opened fire on the suspect, striking him in the stomach and upper right thigh, police said. The suspect ran inside a house, where he was apprehended on the second floor.

The suspect was taken by police to Temple University Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

A second man also was arrested. Neither man was identified. A gun was recovered in the house.
