Spanier seeks court permission to travel

Former Pennsylvania State University president Graham B. Spanier has asked for judicial permission to travel outside of the state while he awaits trial on charges he covered up Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of children. Among his desired destinations: a second home in New York City, holiday celebrations with family in Iowa and his ill mother in Chicago, a wedding in Slovakia, a State Department trip to the United Kingdom, and a Holocaust memorial event next year in Germany. In a response filed in Dauphin County Court last month, prosecutors said they were not opposed to Spanier's requests but suggested the court approve the trips on a case-by-case basis. - Jeremy Roebuck
