Scammers are targeting residents affected by the Paulsboro train derailment, claiming to offer a cash reward to those who agree not to file a legal claim, Gloucester County officials said Tuesday.

Identity thieves have knocked on doors, the Gloucester County freeholders said, asking people to sign over their right to file a claim in return for $800. Information requested includes Social Security numbers. There is no such program, officials said.

The scammers may be dressed in work uniforms and hard hats and pose as utility workers, authorities said. - Jonathan Lai
