The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will soon be one step closer to choosing who will man Philadelphia's highly-coveted coming casino.
The GCB on Thursday announced the schedule of public suitability hearings for each of the five applicants still in the running to receive the city's remaining casino license up for grabs.
The hearings, whose order were selected at random, are scheduled in 4-hour blocks beginning Jan. 28, 2014. Each will be held in Ballroom A of the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Members of the public are invited to attend in person or to view the proceedings from a livestream on the Board's website.
Board members will receive evidence about each proposed operator's character, operational and financial suitability and community impact. They'll also hear the applicants' plans for ensuring diversity and preventing compulsive gaming and other quality of life issues.
PA Gaming Ventures, LLC, which has pitched the Hollywood Casino Philadelphia at 700 Packer Ave., will be up first. That hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 28.
Also on Jan. 28, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., board members will hear from Tower Entertainment, LLC, the entity behind the proposed Provence at 400 N. Broad St.
Market 8 Associates, who are advocating for Casino Philadelphia to be constructed at 8th and Market streets, will make its presentation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 29.
PHL Local Gaming, LLC, whose Casino Revolution is proposed for 3333 S. Front St., will have a hearing from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. the same date.
Stadium Casino, LLC, the operators behind the prospective Live! Hotel and Casino at 900 Packer Ave., will pitch to the Board from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 30.
Following the hearings, Gaming Board officials will consider the information presented, together with previously-gathered public input, written comments from elected officials and data amassed by the Board's Bureau of Investigations and Enforcement and Licensing, to consider which entity will be awarded the license.
