Philly Latino Democrat defends Corbett

Ken Trujillo, a Democrat and attorney from Philadelphia, has come to the aid of Gov. Tom Corbett, telling a newspaper columnist that he believes the governor was unfairly attacked earlier this month as insensitive toward Latinos.

Trujillo told the Patriot-News that Corbett, a white Republican, "has done a far better job with the Latino community than this controversy suggests. He's named and nominated Latinos to some of the most important positions, including the school reform commission in Philadelphia, me to the LCB, others to sub-cabinet positions, and cabinet positions such as the Department of Health."

The newspaper column comes on the heels of comments Corbett made in Philadelphia before a panel hosted at The Union League.  When asked by a panelist if Corbett had any Latinos in his cabinet, the governor responded:

"No, we do not have any staff members in there," Corbett replied. "If you can find us one, please let me know."

"Frankly I think this whole thing is much ado about not very much," Trujillo told The Patriot-News.
