Many locations for unwanted medicine dropoff boxes in Chester County

WEST CHESTER - Chester County residents can drop off unwanted or expired prescription medication at boxes throughout the county.

WEST CHESTER - Chester County residents can drop off unwanted or expired prescription medication at boxes throughout the county.

Law enforcement officers encourage this disposal method in an attempt to reduce drug abuse and protect the water supply, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said. He said more people die nationwide from abusing prescription drugs than from abusing illegal drugs.

"The front line in the war on drugs has shifted from the dangerous street corners in the rough part of town to the medicine cabinet in your home," Hogan said in a statement. "Safely disposing of dangerous medications will save lives."

Collection boxes are set up at the county Justice Center and the Police Department buildings that serve East Brandywine, Kennett Square, New Garden, North Coventry, Parkesburg, Phoenixville, West Goshen, West Whiteland, Westtown, and East Goshen.

The county bought the boxes with grant money from state agencies.
