Jean Stewart Klaus, 65, of Long Neck, Del., an insurance agent on the Main Line for 20 years, died of cancer April 19 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Klaus grew up in Wynnewood and graduated from Lower Merion High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Washington College in Chestertown, Md. In 1964, she married C. Wayne Klaus. After raising a family in Broomall, she became a licensed insurance agent. She retired in 2000, and in 2005 she and her husband moved to Long Neck, where they enjoyed the beach and the casual lifestyle.

Mrs. Klaus was an active supporter of the New Jersey Schnauzer Rescue, which matches families with schnauzers in need of homes. The program does not operate a kennel, and Mrs. Klaus often provided a home for schnauzers before they could be adopted.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Richard Klaus and Christopher Raisbach, daughter Melissa Lauritzen, a brother, a sister, and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the Stretch Funeral Home, 236 E. Eagle Rd., Havertown.
