First Lt. Colby Umbrell | Services set

A Funeral Mass for Army First Lt. Colby J. Umbrell, who was killed May 3 in action in Musayyib, Iraq, will be said at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 235 E. State St., Doylestown. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Reed and Steinbach Funeral Home, 2335 Lower State Road, Doylestown. Burial will be at 3 p.m. May 18 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

Lt. Umbrell, 26, grew up in Doylestown Township and graduated from Central Bucks East High School, where he was cocaptain of the football team and a member of the Bucks County all-star football team. He also participated on the track team. He earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Johns Hopkins University, where he played football.

He ran marathons in Chicago, Rome, and in Anchorage, Alaska, where he also competed in a triathlon and was a volunteer swim coach for the Special Olympics.

Lt. Umbrell enlisted in the Army in December 2004. He was assigned to the First Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment based at Fort Richardson, Alaska.

He is survived by his parents, Mark and Nancy Umbrell; a sister, Casey; brothers Bruce and Adam; and his maternal grandmother, Jeanette Munsell, and her husband, Alan.
