Rev. Daniel Dooley, retired Norwood pastor

THE REV. Daniel M. Dooley, pastor emeritus of St. Gabriel Parish in Norwood, Delaware County, who served a number of other churches in the Philadelphia area in more than 40 years as a priest, died of melanoma Monday. He was 74 and lived at St. Matthew Parish in Philadelphia.

THE REV. Daniel M. Dooley, pastor emeritus of St. Gabriel Parish in Norwood, Delaware County, who served a number of other churches in the Philadelphia area in more than 40 years as a priest, died of melanoma Monday. He was 74 and lived at St. Matthew Parish in Philadelphia.

He was born in Sharon Hill to Daniel M. Dooley and the former Barbara Boyle. He attended Holy Spirit Parochial School in Sharon Hill, Notre Dame Academy, Cathedral Parochial School and Roman Catholic High School.

He was ordained on May 13, 1961, at the Cathedral Basilica of Ss. Peter and Paul by the late Cardinal John J. Krol.

He served as parochial vicar at Holy Spirit Parish, Sharon Hill; St. Margaret, Narberth; Immaculate Conception, Jenkintown; St. John Bosco, Hatboro; St. Madeline, Ridley Park, and Our Mother of Sorrows, West Philadelphia.

He served as pastor of Transfiguration Parish, West Philadelphia, from 1979 through 1990, and pastor of St. Gabriel's until 2003 when he became pastor emeritus.

He also served as senior priest at St. Matthew Parish.

Dooley is survived by a brother, the Rev. Msgr. Joseph P. Dooley, of the Allentown Diocese, and a sister, Nancy McLaverty. He was predeceased by two brothers, Michael and Daniel, and a sister, Barbara Hosey.

Services: Funeral Mass to be celebrated by Cardinal Justin Rigali, archbishop of Philadelphia, 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Gabriel Church, Mohawk and Seminole avenues, Norwood.

Friends may call at 9 a.m.

The service of the Transfer of the Body will be held at 5 p.m. today at St. Matthew Church, Cottman Avenue and Battersby Street.

A viewing will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. when a parish Mass will be celebrated. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon. *
