Jorge E. Maldonado, 30, of Old City, an actor, died of an aneurysm Dec. 19 at home.
A singer and dancer as well as an actor, Mr. Maldonado appeared in plays and in musicals in New York City, including the off-Broadway production
Latin Heat
in 2003. He played Danny in
Grease
at the Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center in Marlton in 2005, and this fall he was Pedro in
Man of La Mancha
at the Walnut Street Theatre. He and his partner of three years, Steve Pacek, met in 2003 when they were cast in Stephen Sondheim's
Pacific Overtures
at the Arden Theatre in Philadelphia.
A native of Houston, Mr. Maldonado earned a bachelor's degree from the School of Music of the University of Miami in 1999.
He enjoyed exploring new places, socializing with friends, and listening to all kinds of music, including salsa and rock, Pacek said. He loved his Mac computer, nicknamed "Jeannie," Pacek said, and kept in close touch with his family in Texas through video conferencing.
In addition to his partner, Mr. Maldonado is survived by his parents, Marie and Jairo; brothers Jairo Jr. and Gustavo; and a sister, Gloria.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at the Arden Theatre, 40 N. Second St.
