Liselotte M. Klein, 85, of Newtown Square, a longtime employee of Penn Mutual Insurance Co., died Dec. 13 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at Riddle Village, a retirement facility in Media.

Liselotte M. Klein, 85, of Newtown Square, a longtime employee of Penn Mutual Insurance Co., died Dec. 13 of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at Riddle Village, a retirement facility in Media.

Mrs. Klein worked for the company for 30 years, starting as research coordinator for the manager of actuarial services. Her office was in Philadelphia.

In 1983, she was promoted to director of actuarial services. She held that post until December 1987.

From 1988 until she retired in 2004, Mrs. Klein worked for Wachovia Bank in various customer service positions before advancing to customer relations manager and banking officer.

She acted as a "floating" branch manager in Delaware County, substituting when others took vacations, her family said.

Born in Vienna, Austria, she attended high school and college there, earning a bachelor's degree in mathematics.

According to family members, she was an interpreter for the Allied Forces in Austria and met her husband, Joseph, who was there with the Army. The two married and came to the United States in the mid-1940s.

The Kleins settled initially in Westbrook Park, Delaware County, before moving to Newtown Square in 1959. She and her husband moved to Riddle Village in 1994; he died in 1996.

Surviving are a son, Gerhart L.; a daughter, Deanna Swarbrick; and a grandson.

Friends may call at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 20, at SS. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 8 Cavanaugh Court, West Chester, Pa. 19382. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10. Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.
