Dorann G. Mancini | Funeral home owner, 70

Dorann Ganci Mancini, 70, co-owner of the Mancini Funeral Home on Ritner Street near 12th Street in South Philadelphia, died of breast cancer Saturday, May 28, at ManorCare Health Services in Sewell.

Dorann Ganci Mancini, 70, co-owner of the Mancini Funeral Home on Ritner Street near 12th Street in South Philadelphia, died of breast cancer Saturday, May 28, at ManorCare Health Services in Sewell.

Her husband, Charles Jr., the funeral director, said she and he had operated the firm since 1970 and had lived in Sewell since 1994.

Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Mancini graduated from South Philadelphia High School in 1958 and taught at the former Maranelli's Beauty Culture School in Center City until 1965.

Mrs. Mancini was president of the Girard Estates Association in the mid-1980s and chairwoman of its committee that built the statue of Stephen Girard in the 1990s at the park named for him between 21st, 22d, Porter, and Shunk Streets., her husband said.

She was a member of the sodality at St. Richard of Chichester Roman Catholic Church in South Philadelphia in the 1970s.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Mancini is survived by a son, Charles V.; daughters Janine Massi and Vanessa Sorenson; and eight grandchildren.

A visitation was set at 9 a.m. Friday, June 3, at St. Richard Church, 3010 S. 18th St. (at Pollock Street), before an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass there. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill.
