Letters: Those oldies but goodies

I'D LIKE TO see the Fleetwoods sing the national anthem at Barack Obama's inauguration. If you're old enough, you know who I'm talking about.

For younger readers, the Fleetwoods aren't to be confused with Fleetwood Mac, who brought us Stevie Nicks. The Fleetwoods are a two-girl, one-boy doo-wop group from Olympia, Wash.

They celebrated their 50th anniversary this year and in 2009 will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their first hits, "Come Softly to Me" and "Mr. Blue." Younger readers know rock 'n' roll as hard and raucous, but the Fleetwoods were soft and intimate.

If the organizers can't get them, maybe they can get Connie Stevens. Connie is still sweet and cuddly.

I was never a Jim Croce fan, but millions were. It's been 35 years since those fans cried the day you died.
