Letters: A modest proposal on NCAA tourney

IWAS WATCHING college basketball and had an idea. Instead of the dumb old 64-team NCAA tournament, there's a better way to determine the champion.

At the end of the conference tournaments, use the media and coaches' polls and a bunch of computer simulations to determine the top two teams from the biggest conferences. After a one-month hiatus, have those two teams play for the title.

The other teams can play around the country in meaningless exhibition games with corporate sponsorships to make money to pay the ridiculously bloated salaries of all the NCAA bureaucrats.

They could even find some people willing to insist it's the best system that could ever exist. Call it the NCAA Tournament Championship Series.
