Letters: C'mon, Philadelphia, let's help out families devastated by crash

OK, Philly, so many showed up for the families of the police officers who were senselessly killed - and I commend that spirit. Let's now show up for the families destroyed by the terrible accident.

OK, Philly, so many showed up for the families of the police officers who were senselessly killed - and I commend that spirit. Let's now show up for the families destroyed by the terrible accident.

The families are left with the funerals for those little angels and a young mother. I want to see containers in stores and have the public fill them with donations just like they did for the police families.

The tragedy on Annsbury Street will affect those families for years, and I'd like to see some financial help.

Teddy bears and flowers are great, but they don't pay the bills. The FOP has a system to assist the family of an officer after the ultimate tragedy - thank God for that. But we are inundated with stories of the killing of the innocent - does anybody care that there's no fund for those families to pay for medical bills and funerals?

Now's the time to assist these families by taking the financial burden off the list of worries that they'll face in the coming weeks and months.

My heart goes out to the families of the suspects, too. Many years ago, my own son was sent to a facility that did nothing but make him a better criminal. Since his teen years, he's been in and out of prison. The system is broken and it needs a serious overhaul!

To those families, let the blame lay where it belongs, on the suspects. You did the best you could and, I'll keep you in my prayers as well.
