Letters: Ways to slice the national deficit

THERE ARE ways to reduce our mounting national debt. First, members of Congress have an average net worth of $900,000. Reduce the salary to $1,000 a year and limit terms to two. Set mandatory retirement of these politicians to 65 because the geezers in the Senate are truly out of touch with reality. People with incomes over $800,000 should receive NO Social Security.

As the Tea Partiers say they want the government out of their lives, let's give them that. They can start by returning their Social Security checks. When seeking medical assistance, they can pay out of pocket and not use their Medicare card, saving the taxpayers money and reducing the debt.

Place a penalty on corporations that close factories and send the jobs overseas. Does the CEO of a company takes his bonus millions in pesos or yen?
