Letters: Bykofsky's whining in Marcus Perez case is way off-base

THE LAISSEZ-faire mentality, as exposed once again in Stu Bykofsky's April 25 "Perez Case" column, is a shining example of "it's always someone else's fault." So now we excuse because of a verbal technicality the sentence length being served by an admitted murderer who took the life of another human being over a $150 debt.

The admitted murderer has spent 21 years behind bars - but the victim has spent 21 years in a coffin. Stu, if people want to stay out of prison for long periods of time, there's a simple solution - don't commit crimes. Thanks to D.A. Seth Williams for not bowing to the pressure of the "blame it on others" scalawags like Byko.

Vouchers & discipline

Re the school-voucher debate:

All schools should be integrated, clean and safe. The real problem? Spare the rod, spoil the child. Discipline should start at home. I say school vouchers for all our students - and peace and discipline.

G bus plea

The Philadelphia Regional Produce Market will be moving shortly to a new location, 67th and Essington. But the G bus doesn't go close enough. I've been told the nearest stop is 62nd and Essington. I must be at work at 3 a.m., so walking five blocks in darkness is difficult and dangerous. Me and my co-workers would appreciate some consideration.

Afghanistan apoplexy

President Obama promised to end the war in Iraq in 2010 and the Afghanistan conflict in 2011.

He kept that promise regarding Iraq but reneged on Afghanistan.

I had a letter published in the Daily News stating that the three-year extension President Obama gave to NATO would result in more killing and wounding of our troops.

It has been a ruinous, no-win war to keep a rotten degenerate drug lord in office.

Extremism cuts both ways

Letter writer Ron Corson (

April 20

) is half-blind if he thinks the right wing is the only one with extremists.

He points to the inappropriate signage equating President Obama to Hitler, but conveniently ignores similar signs smearing Wisconsin Gov. Walker (not to mention eight years of "Bush = Hitler" barbs). Corson may choose to pretend that all union supporters have been peaceful and respectful, but documented, videotaped evidence says otherwise, and Republican lawmakers have, indeed, been sent death threats. Let's condemn the violent extremists of both sides.
