Letters: Letters: Council must cut its own staff

I BELIEVE that the first thing the mayor should do is to have a "sit-down" with Council President Darrell Clarke and recommend that he consider cutting the staff of each councilperson by at least two. It was estimated that the cost of each councilperson's staff, considering wages, benefits and expenses, is close to or exceeding $1,000,000 a year.

Why?

When you consider the amount of time that Council works, that is an exorbitant amount of money for a part-time job, considering a couple of months off in the summer, holidays, sick days, vacation and whatever other time they use while being paid.

Come on, Mr. Mayor, start being a proper manager and get your administration into a professional mode and bring the city back to one that we could be proud of.

A footnote: Cut back on the outside legal services that are cutting into the expenses. If the legal staff that you have under contract cannot handle the work they are hired for . . . GET RID OF THEM!

Bats ablaze

The Phillies need to hold a fire sale by mid-July. The pitching is terrible, the offense stagnant. It's the only alternative. Time to rebuild.
