Letters: A positive atmosphere is offered to newcomers

I recently moved to Philadelphia and wanted to express what a positive experience it has been. My wife and sister are both born-and-raised Philadelphians and have both traveled the world and lived in many U.S. cities. I am retired from the U.S. Coast Guard and my travels have been the same. It was time for the family to be together again, and my wife and I moved from Rhode Island, and the sister is moving from California to Philadelphia. A full circle for them after being away for 30 years.

I didn't know what to expect, but moving to this new big city has been the most positive transition I have ever experienced. It has to do with the history; the culture of art, music, and theater; the parks and recreation; and the entire cosmopolitan atmosphere Philadelphia offers. Most important has been the genuine, kind, human nature of the people I have encountered on a daily basis everywhere I go. Never have I had so many conversations with strangers just by saying hello. This is inherently the nature of the city; most unique.

Philadelphia, you are a great city and should be proud of the positive atmosphere that you have developed for yourselves and the many visitors who come here.
