New Temple football coach Steve Addazio received his first oral commitment a day after being named to the Owls' post.

Cedric Walker, an electric, 5-foot-9, 175-pound running back from Gulliver Prep in Miami, said Friday he wants to be an Owl.

Walker was recruited by Temple before Addazio's arrival. He decided to wait until Temple named a new coach to make a decision, and he and Addazio already knew each other from the recruiting trails. Addazio was the offensive coordinator at Florida before accepting the job at Temple.

Walker, who has 4.4-second speed in the 40-yard dash, has big-play ability. He gained 902 yards on 68 carries - that's more than 13 yards per attempt.

Addazio cannot comment on recruits until they officially sign on Feb. 2.
