Cover 2: Hurting Bears say they won't sign Favre

It took until December, but, like Santa Claus, he flashed briefly into view before he drove out of sight.

ESPN quoted a Chicago Bears source as saying the team has no interest in signing Brett Favre.

Earlier this week, ESPNChicago.com said the legendary farmer/hunter/quarterback would consider joining the Bears and that Favre has stayed in football shape.

Favre, who spends most of his time hunting, was unavailable for comment.

So was Santa Claus.

Heisman Trophy finalist Andrew Luck announced he will forgo his final year at Stanford to enter the 2012 NFL draft. Asked about being drafted by winless Indianapolis, the Stanford quarterback said: "The NFL stuff is a long way off."

Portland police have no plans to further investigate a Saturday car accident involving Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh even though two women have come forward and claimed they suffered injuries in the wreck.

The women, who were not identified in a police report, came forward on Sunday. The police report was amended to include the claims.

Suh, who went to Grant High School in Portland, is serving a two-game suspension for stomping on Green Bay Packers guard Evan Dietrich-Smith during a Thanksgiving Day game. He is not allowed to take part in team activities while on suspension and had returned to Portland.

Carolina placed both starting defensive tackles - Terrell McClain (sprained left knee) and Sione Fua (right hamstring strain) - on injured reserve, ending their seasons. The Panthers added free-agent defensive tackle Ogemdi Nwagbuo and defensive tackle Jason Shirley from the practice squad to replace them.

Pittsburgh nose tackle Chris Hoke may miss the rest of the season. Hoke visited with doctors on Monday to take a second look at the neck stinger the 10-year veteran sustained against Jacksonville on Oct. 16.

Rams backup QB A.J. Feeley has a small fracture in his right thumb, leaving his availability in doubt for next Monday's game at Seattle. With starter Sam Bradford (high left ankle sprain) questionable, too, the team added Matt Gutierrez to the practice squad to back up Tom Brandstater.

The NFL levied four-game suspensions on Redskins tight end Fred Davis and left tackle Trent Williams for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Neither will be available to play against the Eagles on Jan. 1.

Seahawks rookie guard John Moffitt also was suspended for four games without pay for violating the performance-enhancing substance policy.
