Doug Pederson concedes that he wasted a challenge

Upon further review, Doug Pederson would never have asked for a review. Pederson was questioned Monday after a curious decision to throw a challenge flag in the third quarter of the Eagles' 27-13 loss to Green Bay to save two yards, turning a second-and-8 play into second and 10. He offered a clumsy explanation after the loss about playing the "field position game," but he admitted Wednesday that he shouldn't have challenged the play.

"That would be a challenge that I would [take back]," Pederson said. "That's part of going back to the process of self-evaluation in making those decisions. I would probably hang on to that and keep it for a situation that didn't [end up] showing up in the game."

Beating a bug

A "stomach bug" sent right guard Brandon Brooks to the hospital Monday, causing him to miss the game. Brooks was back on the practice field Wednesday, unaffected by the illness.

"Back to business as usual," Brooks said. "Practiced today. Felt fine. Just stay hydrated, stick to bland foods, and go from there."

Brooks' diet will consist of eggs, chicken, and rice. That's going to be a difficult transition for a 6-foot-5, 335-pound offensive lineman.

"Yes and no," Brooks said. "Yes, just because being this big, I like to eat. But it's needed."

How long will he need to eat that way?

"After the way I felt the other day, the rest of my time," Brooks said.

Wisniewski still starting

With Halapoulivaati Vaitai sidelined, the Eagles will continue to play Allen Barbre at right tackle and Stefen Wisniewski at left guard. They will not replace Wisniewski with Isaac Seumalo, who is a third-round pick likely with a longer future with the team.

"Wiz is playing good," Pederson said.

Injuries

Wide receiver Jordan Matthews did not practice because of a sprained ankle, but he is expected to play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Eagles also missed Vaitai and running back Ryan Matthews, who has a knee injury.
