Having just emerged from left ACL surgery and being stuck in a Pittsburgh hospital bed didn't stop Carson Wentz from FaceTiming teammates Wednesday. Backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld said that even though Wentz was "pretty loopy" on pain medication, he wanted to know about a new play he'd gotten an email about from the coaching staff.

Sudfeld said Wentz's spirits were "really good."

"It's obviously disappointing, but the surgery went well, from what I heard and what he said. He was feeling pretty loopy after the anesthesia … He was just ordering a burger and talking about, he was trying to figure out some of the new plays we put in."

Sudfeld said he asked Wentz, "are you sure you want to know right now?"

Under intense questioning, Sudfeld acknowledged he did not have many relevant details about the burger. "I think it was a double-stack something?"

Kelce kicks the can

Usually the early, warm-up part of practice reporters are allowed to watch is extremely boring. We mostly try to figure out who isn't on the field. But Thursday's glimpse at the NovaCare indoor facility was spiced by center Jason Kelce's spirited kick of a trash can.

"Memorial service for the trash can will be held next Tuesday," defensive end Chris Long tweeted, above the video of Kelce's kick.

Kelce said a teammate inadvertently cleated him on the right ankle in a drill – it would seem to have been Chance Warmack, judging from the way Kelce seems to be gesturing at Warmack in the video – and he was blowing off steam. Kelce, who has been playing with a right ankle sprain, likened his reaction to hitting your thumb with a hammer and tossing the hammer.

Birdseed

Left guard Stefen Wisniewski, who left last Sunday's game with an ankle injury, was listed as a partial practice participant Thursday. Wisniewski was unavailable for comment afterward, but he did not seem to be moving well … WR Alshon Jeffery and DE Steven Means missed practice with an illness … The Browns released WR Bryce Treggs, whom they signed off the Eagles' practice squad earlier this season, so the Birds brought him back to their practice squad Thursday, releasing WR/returner Rashard Davis.
